Where iCloud is available, Sync progress is on from the start. Game progress is then also kept in the player's private iCloud storage, which Apple runs. Zerbimil has no access to it.
The copy in iCloud remains even when Sync progress is turned off or the game is deleted. It can be deleted in the device's iCloud settings.
If sharing with app developers is on in the device's privacy settings, Apple may give Zerbimil anonymous crash reports and usage statistics.
Data on the device
The game has no account and connects to no Zerbimil server. Game progress is the current round, the best times, the deals already played and a random identifier for the device that is not derived from its hardware. With Sync progress on, the rounds of other devices are added.
On the Mac, the data is kept in the game's own folder,
~/Library/Containers/com.zerbimil.mahjong. If this folder is deleted while the
game is not running, the settings and game progress on the Mac are gone. With
Sync progress on, the game then brings the game progress back from iCloud.
iCloud
The game stores game progress encrypted in the private CloudKit database of the player's iCloud account. Settings are not synced. With Sync progress off, nothing is uploaded or downloaded.
Sync progress needs an iCloud account signed in. On the Mac, it is available on macOS 14 or later.
When the copy in iCloud is deleted, each device turns Sync progress off as soon as it learns of the deletion. It then uploads none of it again. Game progress on the devices remains.
The recipient is Apple as the provider of iCloud. Apple processes the data under the iCloud terms and the Apple privacy policy.
Crash reports
Zerbimil uses crash reports and usage statistics only to find and fix bugs.
Legal basis and retention
- Storage on the device
- Section 25(2) No. 2 of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG). The storage is strictly necessary for the game to keep settings and game progress.
- Sync through iCloud
- Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is the same game progress on all of the player's devices. Turning Sync progress off ends the sync.
- Crash reports
- Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is a game without bugs.
- Retention period
- The data stays stored until the player deletes it as described above. Zerbimil keeps no copy.
Email and website
